Circa Waves @ Musik & Frieden in Berlin

Circa Waves is a classic guitars band. Two guitars, bass, drums, a powerful voice and catchy songs. Punchy and uncomplicated energetic British indie pop rock. We ́ve seen it hundreds of times but it still works, and it does pretty well. After putting out two albums and with already quite an experience on stage after having ticked off their childhood dream of touring through Europe and the US and playing at festivals like Glastonbury or Reading & Leeds, the Liverpool formed quartet were stopping in Berlin on October 30th to present “What’s It Like Over There?”, their third and latest studio album and also the most poppy sounding one.

It turned out to be a good, energetic and fun show, which was preceded by a great surprise: the support act Boniface aka Micah Visser! The talented Canadian ended up being the discovery of the night. I don't know how many people there could be in Musik & Frieden, but surely the number matches with the new followers that Boniface gained that same night.

With a bunch of songs about relationships and their frequent ups and downs or bitter ends, it's no wonder that the first row was full of passionate fans of Circa Waves, the ones that don't hesitate in protecting their space with their elbows. Anthems like “The Way We Say Goodbye”, “T-Shirt Weather” or “Sorry I’m Yours” seemed to hit hard their hypothalamus.

Everyone ended up surrendering to Circa Waves, they have a blunt presence on stage and a powerful live. They did well in a venue that probably should have been bigger. And they left everyone wanting more. In fact, as soon as the band left the stage, through the speakers of Musik & Frieden started to sound “Don't stop me now” by Queen at a really high volume, putting a still excited audience to dance.
